In a business where participants tends to blur the lines between on-and-off set life, couplings, affairs, and marriages seem to start and end in the blink of an eye. Some, magical pairings that are actually the real deal, stay in it for the long haul and are regarded as miracles.

Which is why I actually gasped aloud when I logged onto People.com (busted. I read people.com) and saw the headline “Bradley Whitford and Jane Kaczmarek File for Divorce.” I really liked this couple, he of “The West Wing” which is arguable the greatest show to have graced television since its inception, and she of “Malcolm in the Middle” which was meh, but lasted forever. They even have a charitable foundation together (and seriously, since Paul Newman, who really does philanthropic work with any sincerity?) called Clothes Off Our Backs, whose website  (http://www.clothesoffourback.org/categories.php) reads as follows:

“The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation is a 501c3 organization that hosts charity auctions showcasing today’s hottest celebrity attire. Items are put up for bid to the public with proceeds going to benefit children’s charities. Clothes Off Our Back was founded by actors and philanthropists Jane Kaczmarek (“Malcolm In The Middle,” “Raising the Bar”) and Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”) whose efforts, along with their celebrity and designer friends have helped improve the lives of children across the globe.”

HOW AWESOME. I’d love to bid on Rachel McAdams dress (ha. ha. ha. It will never fit.) Or Robert Downey Jr.’s tie (that will fit) for a good cause! I hope they keep the foundation going. It’s just so sad. They seem like really cool, regular people who just happen to be very talented actors. I’m sorry they couldn’t make it work.
